Alhassan Yusuf was born on 20 July 2000 in Kano, Kano State, Nigeria. He attended primary and secondary school in Kano, Kano State.

Alhassan Yusuf began his football career in grassroots football in Kano State. After playing grassroots football for a long time, he attended Nigeria U17 tryouts but was not selected. He started his professional career with Nigerian side FC Hearts before moving to Allsvenskan outfit IFK Goteborg in 2018 after impressing at the Gothia Cup in Sweden.
In his first season at the Gamla Ullevi, he made one league appearance for the Comrades in the 2-0 away win at Brommapojkarna on October 22, 2018. The following season, he played 26 league games, scoring two goals, and won the Allsvenskan Newcomer of the Year award.
In total, he made 66 league appearances, scoring two goals and providing four assists. In the 2021-22 campaign, he has been a key player for Royal Antwerp, making 29 league appearances and scoring three goals.
Alhassan Yusuf received his first national call-up in 2023 to replace the injured Wilfred Ndidi before the commencement of AFCON. He made his debut for the Nigerian national team in January 2024.
